What is Live Resin

Live resin is concentrated cannabis extracted from freshly harvested plant material in a unique way. It's been flash-frozen (or fresh frozen) at and extracted with solvents, turning it into butane hash oil (BHO). That oil (which is more like a sticky solid often resembling honey) is then pressed.

This powerful extraction method is why live resin is so valued. Concentrating cannabis into live resin avoids the lengthy curing and drying process for hemp plants. Therm 'live' comes from the flash freezing of the fresh (or “live”) plants, shortly after harvesting. This explains why certain cannabis products you may have seen in the market are categorized as “live.”

Terpenes and live resin

Terpenes are natural compounds found in plants, including cannabis, that are responsible for each strain's unique smells, tastes and even colors. They reside throughout the plant's biomaterial including in fan leaves, stalks, budding flower and especially in the sticky trichome globules that protect the plant's growing colas.

Terpenes are very easily damaged during processing. It's estimated that more than 50% of terpenes are lost when harvesting, drying and trimming cannabis for sale. But, every bud still carries this complex kief powder of dusty trichomes. If you're lucky, your dry herb grinder has a pollen (or 'kief') chamber where it collects oer time. You're even luckier, though, to have moon rocks!

Terpene structure

In cannabis, there are monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Monoterpenes have a smaller molecular structure and are responsible for lighter and fresher aromas. These include terpenes like myrcene, limonene, terpinolene and linalool.

Sesquiterpenes have larger molecules and give cannabis its heavier aromatic undertones. Examples of these are caryophyllene and humulene.

A fresh marijuana plant has higher amounts of monoterpenes compared to sesquiterpenes. During the curing process, monoterpenes are first to evaporate due to their smaller size, and the terpene profile of the final product is usually richer in sesquiterpenes.

Products like live resin are 2% richer in monoterpenes according to High Times, and as a result, they have a fresher aroma than products that have gone through the curing process. According to the same research, “live resin contains 11% less sesquiterpenes by weight than non-live resin.”

How delta 8 works

Cannabis has many new users, both medically and recreationally, for good reasons. While we are still learning about this amazing plant, what we do know for sure is important. For example, CBD is part of a full spectrum of cannabinoids (the chemical compounds in cannabis like CBD and THC). It has known antinflammatory, analgesic, anti-seizure properties.

There are two known receptors specifically for cannabinoids on nearly every cell in your body. They are called CB1 and CB2.
CBD is therapetutic and not high inducing because it reacts with the CB2 receptor, found primarily in the body's immune system.

  • Delta 8 reacts with the CB1 receptor, delivering a mild psychoactive euphoria.
  • Delta 8 delivers a euphoria without paranoia and anxiety, as with Delta 9 THC products.
  • All cannabinoids work together in an 'entourage effect,' making their effects greater than the sum of their parts.
  • Edibles are one of the most efficient ways to capture the full spectrum of compounds within the cannabis plant.

How delta 8 feels

The great thing about delta-8 THC is that it has a lower psychotropic potency than its close cousin delta-9 THC. This means you can get high without feeling too stoned, and without the intense paranoia and anxiety associated with high doses of marijuana.

If you're looking for something mellow, but still potent enough to be considered "high," then delta-8 might just be your new favorite cannabinoid!

Delta-8 THC users report pervasive body sensations, relaxation and clear-headedness, with a lower psychotropic effect. THC Delta-8 contains properties that may help reduce stress or tension, stimulate appetite, or reduce nausea, according to research.

Cannabis history

Cannabinoids have benefitted mankind for thousands of years, with numerous uses according to anecdotal evidence. Cannabis has been used medically to treat everything from chronic pain to anxiety, insomnia to narcolepsy and beyond!

Cannabis also has recreational and ceremonial uses, documented throughout human history. And now, with the innovations in the hemp-created cannabinoid industry, there are numerous ways to include cannabis in your lifestyle.

Cannabis can be smoked, vaporized (heated without combustion to release active ingredients without combustion and smoke), ingested in tincture drops, and eaten as an edible, like gummies, chocolates and even ice cream!
